Community Mosaic Workshops

Ever wanted to make your own personal mark on a Landmark Building in Croydon?

We teamed up with Artyface artist Maud Milton to be part of creating a  community mosaic commissioned by BrickbyBrick to adorn their new development on Wandle Road, Kindred House.

19 people joined our clay mosaic tile pressing workshops on Saturday 29th January where they pressed patterns onto pre-cut wet clay tiles.  Once all the tiles were decorated with gorgeous designs they were whisked away by Artyface to be glazed, fired, and all set together within the final mosaic piece. When finished the final huge mosaic will be displayed on the outside wall of the new development Kindred House on Wandle Road for all of eternity!

People brought along anything that they could use to make interesting and unique patterns on the clay tiles. Any small household items; jewellery, favourite toys, kitchen implements, stationary, diy materials, natural objects or even their own stamps. By pressing these into the soft clay tiles the mosaic has encapsulated a part of them forever too!

Those that couldn’t make it to a workshop collected a ‘take away’ kit from the Broad Green Hub, Keeley Road with and created their own collection of tiles pressed in the comfort their own homes.

The finished Mosaic is due to be displayed on Kindred House by late March/April so watch this space for the celebration event – or sign up to our mailing list so you don’t miss another thing
