About this event
Ever wanted to make your own personal mark on a Landmark Building in Croydon?
Join our clay mosaic tile pressing workshops on Saturday 29th January where you will be pressing patterns onto pre-cut wet clay tiles.
Once all the tiles have been decorated with all your gorgeous designs they will be whisked away by Artyface Maud Milton to be glazed, fired, and all set together within the final mosaic piece. When finished the final huge mosaic will be displayed on the outside wall of the new development Kindred House on Wandle Road for all of eternity!
Please bring along anything that you can use to make interesting and unique patterns on the clay tiles. Any small household items will work, jewellery, favourite toys, kitchen implements, stationary, diy materials, natural objects or even your own stamps if you have them. Dont worry, you can take them home again! Try to remember, the clay tiles range in size between the size of a finger nail to the size of a small hand, so any variety of smallish things that will fit on the tiles will create a totally unique and beautiful pattern. We will of course have some tools to work with but by bringing along something personal to you, the mosaic will encapsulate a part of you forever too. And they will be easier to recognise when you point them out to all your friends.
All ages, all abilities welcome, however this event is primarily for people that live , work or study in the Broad Green/Fairfield area (or very close to) in Central Croydon.
Children will need to be supervised by an accompanying adult at all times.
Younger children (under the age of 8) are very welcome, but might struggle with the tiles as they are small and delicate. Some toys and other modelling materials will be available during the session for our younger guests.
This is a fully accessible venue but if you think you have access needs or want to ask any questions please contact the event organisers Big Local Broad Green email@example.com
Can’t make it to a workshop? Arrange to collect a ‘take away’ kit from the Broad Green Hub, Keeley Road with your own collection of tiles to press in the comfort of your own home – just make sure you return them to us to be fired by Tuesday 1st February!! If you would like a take away kit please register in the same way as you would for attending a event. Click on Register, complete your details and we will contact you to arrange a collection time.
Covid safe measures will apply, you will be asked to wear a mask unless you are exempt and please ensure you have completed a lateral flow test at home before attending.
